If you are interested in pursuing a career in IT project management, you may have heard of the CompTIA Project+ certification. This credential validates your knowledge and skills in managing small to medium sized projects, using various methodologies and tools. Here, we will give you an overview of the CompTIA Project+ PK0-004 and PK0-005 exams, including the differences between them, the exam information, the topics covered, and the value of this certification for your career.
The CompTIA Project+ PK0-004 exam was launched in 2017 and is scheduled to retire in May 9, 2023. The CompTIA Project+ PK0-005 exam is available in November 2022. Both exams are designed for IT professionals who coordinate or manage small-to-medium-sized projects, inside and outside of IT. The exams test your ability to:
- Manage the project life cycle
- Ensure appropriate communication
- Manage resources and stakeholders
- Maintain project documentation
The exams are vendor-neutral, meaning they are not tied to any specific project management framework or methodology. However, they do cover some basic aspects of Agile methodology, which is widely used in IT projects.
The CompTIA Project+ PK0-005 exam has been updated to reflect the latest technologies and industry trends in IT project management. According to CompTIA, some of the main differences between the two exams are:
- The PK0-005 exam has more focus on an IT project environment, technical terms, Agile and risk management.
- The PK0-005 exam has a different distribution of exam domains and weights than the PK0-004 exam.
The following table shows the comparison of the exam domains and weights for both exams:
PK0-005 Exam Objectives | PK0-004 Exam Objectives |
1.0 Project Management Concepts 33% 2.0 Project Life Cycle Phases 30% 3.0 Tools and Documentation 19% 4.0 Basics of IT and Governance 18% |
